"I am OBSESSED with this new heritage map of the Isle of Wight by Ian Flegg. What a fantastic way for people to learn about their local heritage & culture!!
Visualisations like this are SO important to show how culturally rich somewhere like IoW is. Every town should have one of these.
Ian created the map to encourage islanders to explore the IoW's cultural heritage and access deeper context and stories behind the places they pass every day.
More than 1,300 locations across the Island have been mapped - from well known landmarks such as monuments and historic sites to less known hidden gems.
For those who have been following me for a while, you will know already that I just love a map. I think it is the best way for the creative industries (which includes the heritage & culture sector, obviously - so this map is capturing a lot of IoW's creative world!) to show how it's not just about landmark tourist attractions, which can feel so inaccessible to people across the UK.
The majority of the creative industries is local, grassroots and so much of it is just around the corner from you.
MORE OF THIS PLEASE 👏👏👏👏👏"
